Fall Protection: Because Gravity Doesn’t Care How Experienced You Are
Most serious injuries on jobsites don’t come from freak accidents. They come from falls — and usually from places people didn’t think were “that high.”
Fall protection isn’t about fear. It’s about respect for how fast things can go wrong.
Fall Protection Is Required When:
Anytime you’re working at height where a fall could cause injury. Roof edges, leading edges, ladders, scaffolding, lifts, elevated platforms — if the ground is far enough away to hurt you, protection needs to be in place.
Harnesses — Use When:
Working at heights where guardrails or other protections aren’t available. Harnesses only work when they’re properly fitted, connected, and anchored to the right point. A loose harness or bad tie-off is the same as no protection at all.
Lanyards & Lifelines — Use When:
You need controlled movement or vertical protection. Always check for wear, damage, or improper connections before use. If it looks questionable, it is.
Guardrails & Covers — Use When:
Open edges, floor openings, or holes are present. If someone can step, trip, or back into it, it needs to be blocked or covered — no “we’ll fix it later.”
Ladders — Use When (and How):
Only use the right ladder for the job. Set it correctly, keep three points of contact, and never overreach. If you have to lean or stretch, the ladder is in the wrong spot.
Falls don’t give second chances. You don’t get to react on the way down.
Take the extra minute.
Tie off. Set it right.
Go home safe.
